Programmable focusing optics (PFO) are scanner optics for welding. Two mirrors position the laser beam to every defined position within the processing field. This enables spot and seam welding without having to move the workpiece or the focusing optics. PFO is available for pulsed and cw solid-state lasers and allows for various focal lengths and processing field sizes.
The disk laser enables scanner welding with focal lengths of up to 450 mm. The beam is guided by the PFO in an oval field with a maximum size of 206 x 352 mm˛. Work can be done in a three-dimensional workspace for a stationary optics using the linear motion of the additional lens in the PFO 3D.
When a robot moves the optics, the workspace can be expanded considerably: The highly dynamic beam guidance of the PFO is combined with the spacious motion of the robot during "welding-on-the-fly".
