Laser in the medical technology

With its outstanding characteristics, the laser is the production tool of choice in medical device manufacturing - for welding, cutting and marking of all commonly used materials.

Whatever the application - the production of endoscopes, medical instruments or implants - lasers work with speed, precision and repeatability. The result is the highest quality. Some products could not be made without lasers, such as pacemakers. The laser welds the titanium housing air tight, with no porosity and without the need for refinishing.

On the endoscope, the laser welds the fine tubes together, cuts holes and hinges. Precise laser pulses ensure minimal distortion of he workpiece.
Laser cuts have extremely smooth surfaces and are virtually burr free which eliminates the need for refinishing work. The laser's flexibility makes it a perfect fit for the wide variety of medical technology applications such as orthopedic implants.

Product labeling, traceability and plagiarism protection have a particularly high value in medical technology. With its constant high resolution, the laser beam marks all characters, images and data matrix codes with tempered colors in metal; or by color changes in plastic. The surface doesn't change, enabling sterilization at high temperatures. No other process manages this so easily.
